KID WITH HEART ABOUT
I'm Ty and I am a singer/songwriter from San Antonio, Texas. I keep an open line of communication with my fans so feel free to reach out on any one of my social media accounts. The easiest for me is Facebook Messenger.
Here's a little bit about me..
First, it may the be the "artist" thing to say, or it may even sound pretentious, but I'm not a fan of limiting creativity by giving my artistry an outright definition. However, most would say that my music fits into the country genre. So if you want to get on my good side, singer/songwriter is the most appropriate title. That title allows me to create without restrictions, and you will be glad about that. I guarantee it. Please don't misunderstand me. I love country music, and there's nothing quite like driving home at dusk with the windows down blasting music from George Strait - AND there's also nothing like while air drumming along to your favorite Rush song.
I suppose what I'm trying to say can be summed up to sound a lot like something Tom Delonge (Blink 182) said:"Music is good when it makes you dance. Music is great when it makes you who you are."Ever since the beginning of my life, I've been on a journey of self-discovery. Who I am today as an artist and a person can be reflected by the decades of artistry I am inspired by.
I have always been a musician. Even before I was able to speak, I was humming right along with the radio and aimlessly banging on my dad's drum kit. After a bit of practice and guidance from my dad I started introducing myself as Ty Dillon, the drummer.
When I wasn't in the batting cages or honing my baseball skills, I was always trying to start a band. I remember trying to get some of my classmates, or "prospective bandmates" as I saw them, to sign a contract I had written up and it really seemed as though if being 8 years old didn't even matter. Later on, my family moved across the great state of Texas from Fort Worth to San Antonio right before I started the sixth grade. Nothing had changed too dramatically other than I think I wanted to be a rapper for a hot minute.. but that didn't last long. I was still trying to start that long awaited rock band and then in the 8th grade, my very first multi-member project began. I got to play drums and sing a little bit. I never got any lead parts though. The band's reasoning was that my voice sounded "too country" (or whatever). But, I was the drummer! I was in a band! It was enough! We won a few contests and played a few shows, and even recorded an album. Meanwhile, they let me sing at church and it worked out because typically a South Texas congregation doesn't mind a little. I was able to cut my teeth on stage and have an outlet for my love for singing.
High School graduation put an unofficial end to our rock band endeavors, but in my head, I would be singing in church for a long long time. In 2012, I enrolled at Dallas Baptist University with the intention to study Worship Leadership. I wanted to be on stage leading the church in worship. At 18, there's still lots of learning to be done but like many my age, I thought I knew all I needed to know. I quit going to class. I started getting gigs around town.
Let's fast forward a few years.
After dropping out of college twice, I moved back home and then to San Marcos, Texas. It was in San Marcos where I began singing my own original songs on stage at Cheatham Street Warehouse during the legendary Wednesday night Songwriters Circle. I wrote and I wrote. I saved and I saved. I put out my very first full length album "Sunsets And Pickups". Since 2015, I've been writing for my next album and playing as many gigs around Texas as I can get.
In May of 2019, I plan to release my second full length album called "The Story Of A Kid With Heart". This album is special to me because of how much time and work went into it by me and some of my closest collaborators. This album is a story; an adventure. From start to finish, the music tells of a character much like myself wanting to make it in the unforgiving industry of music. I can't wait for you to hear it!
Looking forward, I plan on taking my music on the road and to towns far and wide, all over the world. If you're interested in seeing me perform, have a look at my tour dates.
Hope to see ya out there!
